About Us

Bert & Pennie How are the owner/operators of Peel Forest Horse Trekking which they do inconjuction with their Lodge, Peel Forest Lodge as well as Peel Forest Safaris.

The Horse Trekking side of the business has been running for four years now and has become quite established with clients coming from all around the world, all year round.

Treks leave from our purpose build base along side the Rangitata River.

We have been very careful in our selection of our horses and ponies and are confident that know matter what your ability or age, we will have a suitable mount.

Safety is very important and we ensure that everyone is given a briefing on riding skills and is correctly fitted with a helmet and footwear.  All our guides are very experienced in horsemanship.

We encourage trekkers to take time out for a hot or cold drink before or after their ride. Drinks are complimentary.

Our Guide - Bert How

Bert has a wealth of experience working with horses in the high country, employing pack-horses and riding on horse back on hunting expeditions. He has a thorough knowledge of the countryside and how each of the horses behave. Bert’s good humour also has a knack of making everyone feel relaxed!
